3DS Live!

The city of Manchester, it’s an explosive place of premier league football, diverse multi-culture, old building made new and new building made very tall, very shiny and very oddly. One part of the city is blue and the other part is red! The blue part, Manchester City Football Club is so exceedingly rich, you could probably pile all the money up which the Middle Eastern owners have poured into their latest plaything and build yourself Mount Everest right on Deansgate and the surrounding areas which are fortified by designer goods, fast food chains and rich roast coffee that costs more than petrol.

The other part of the city, the red part, Manchester United Football Club, well those devils, the American owners are so accustom to running at the loss, seeing green and gold banners and selling certain foreigners to make the books look less titanic, it’s kind of like when David met Goliath reversed, or the Prince and the Paupers.

So Nintendo and all things Mario, well Resident Evil and the T-Virus was in the blue and red city and we at The Games Ingredients had a chance to go to an exclusive pre-launch 3DS event at the somewhat swanky venue, the Cube Gallery. So I shall begin, myself and Wraith_Bringer, travelled into the city by car and after a slight detour (getting lost) around Cheetham Hill as well as Deansgate we finally managed to find a parking space, a £12.30 NCP parking space which was just a stone’s throw from the venue. The Google maps function on Wraith_Bringer’s Xperia 10 and some local knowledge had finally paid off.

With the Nintendo 3DS flags flapping wildly in the wind (see Facebook for photographs) we entered the Cube Gallery to be greeted by a somewhat rather good looking lady with smooth, shiny, black hair cascading beyond her slender shoulders. She escorted us to the reception were the tickets which we had printed off early that week where scanned and our names crossed off a rather ominous list by a trusty Biro.

After being told to wander down some steps we entered a small room with LCD screens that were showcasing the 3DS siding us, another Nintendo beauty (just one of the many fine collection of females working that day) greeted us and asked us to walk through a black curtain which was ahead of us. We entered a similar room with white cube shaped leather, imitation leather seats, the Cube Gallery? After seating and watching a short video, which was simply a play reel from last year’s E3 with Jonathan Ross thrown in for good measure it was time to play on a 3DS, so we thought!

We left that room and entered a mock-up dojo, and the cheese began. Street Fighter, Ken and Ryu, two jokers dressed up began to spar, if that’s what you called it? Punching, kicking and some dodgy back flip! After some awkward praise and some photographs (see Facebook for the wombateer cheese) we were led up to another black curtain, the curtain opened and this is then things got even cheesier. The T-Virus and Resident Evil. Chris Redfield appeared, wielding a replica Beretta 92FS, he and Jill Valentine, wielding an Heckler & Koch MP5A3 barked orders at the people that had formed behind us. “What are you laughing at? This is no laughing matter!” Chris Redfield growled. “Get down on the floor!” “Now get up and when I say run, you run and stay behind me!”

Unbiased review stating both pro's and con's with a little of good old wombateers fun humour and pervertism thrown in for good measure.

Nice constructive write up Matt ;)

  2. I have to agree, though slick in design and certainly sound in theory, I was disappointed by the actual gadget, though its early days and the NGP blew my cock off with excitement, I would have been open minded towards the 3DS having had a good experience with 3D at EuroGamer. However given what we played and the console itself, I'd have to say no again to Nintendo based on it so far.

Maybe when the price comes down and there is more software I'll come back to it again but I was more impressed by Ken's backflip than what I played.

Good read Matt, puts our day out in full perspective. Awesome day we had. ^^

And for just £12.30 too. xD
