Swarming to the rescue!

Swarm is all about your Swarmites, your flock, saving them, getting them to the end of the level, or at least one of them, but Swarm is also about killing your little blue flock in some gruesome ways to achieve Death Medals, and Mega Death Medals. Vaporised, Impaled, Abyss! The faster you get through the level at hand, the more points you can rack up, the multipliers go up and up with a Swarmite death, nothing is funnier than gassing a Swarmite, a flock member or two and watching them explode into blue puss, especially when their puss, their remains cover your 1080P LCD screen.

At certain points during the level you’re tackling your Swarmites, your flock is replaced, this is handy as some challenges required a certain amount of Swarmites to complete. From utter dark levels, where two of your Swarmites can carry glowing bulbs to light your way, to levels that crumble beneath your feet Swarmites feet, Swarm is challenging and fiendishly brilliant, the graphics are nothing spectacular, but if you have been gaming as long as I have, you will know that graphics don’t make a game, gameplay does, and Swarm delivers gameplay amply.

The overall ambience is one of great satisfaction, the crunching, the cracking; the splatting of your Swarmites is worth every penny you have invested into Hothead Games downloadable game. It is fast flowing and brutal, just the way we like it! This is entertainment as it should be, not costing the earth, just a few Swarmites.

If only Hothead Games had somehow managed to put/program a multiplayer mode into Swarm, whereas you take control of 25 Swarmites and a friend takes control of 25 Swarmites and together you either live or die in the name of entertainment. That would have been the master stoke.
