Now those words give little comfort to me. Is this the price of successfully gaining the full 1000? Everyone knows that a gamer score or trophy count is just another way of saying “look how much time I spend playing video games” but until this experience I’d always seen them as harmless.
Do our achievements take away part of our fun? The very reason why gaming was invented, the core reason in fact?
Maybe I’m just thinking about it too much but answer this for me?
Did we need achievements to defeat Doctor Robotnik and save Mobius as Sonic the Hedgehog?
Did we care about trophies back when Mario was saving his princess from King Koopa?
Would anyone have ever bought Avatar if not for the cheap 1000 points that came with it?
Do gamer scores have an adverse effect on our gaming nowadays or are they a necessary evil to increase replay value in the less obsessive players amongst us? It’s a question we should all ask ourselves. After all, we didn’t spend years stuck inside our rooms playing games because we thought we’d actually achieve anything, we did it because we enjoyed it… right?
