The Need For A Better Superman!

Superman hasn’t had the best history when it comes to video games as these two videos from The Angry Video Game Nerd show: “>Video One, “>Video Two. Superman just hasn’t had a good game, ever, in the whole history of gaming. Superman, the first ever superhero, the one all others are measured by has never had a good game. It was a realisation that saddened me. There is a generation of kids out there (and let’s be honest at a lot of adults too) who think Superman is lame. People are starting to think of Superman in the same camp as Aquaman, that is how bad things have gotten! For this life long comic book fan it was disheartening. So I decided to do something about it.

So one part of my honours project is the herculean task of designing a Superman game. Not just any old Superman game. I will be designing a good Superman game that could stand side by side with Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. It is an exciting idea that has me galvanised like never before. I am going through my vast library of Superman comics and trade paperbacks for inspiration and mechanics ideas. I have also been reading a lot of related news articles on various websites and as we get closer and closer to the release of Arkham City the message is getting louder and louder. We want a Superman game that shows what the character is really about. We want a Superman game that will kick arse!

I am actively seeking people’s opinions at the moment with a few questions. Then please answer the following questions, feel free to put them in the comments on here.

1) What would you want to see in a Superman game? It doesn’t have to fit into my idea of a younger, less powerful, Superman just tell me what you have always wanted to see!

2) Which villains would you like to see? Lex Luthor has to be in the game so there’s one, but there are loads of others. While I have a greater knowledge of Superman’s eniemies it would be interesting to see what you lot come up with. Also the bad guys don’t have to be Superman ones, think broadly if you wish!

3) Do you have any questions you have about my idea? I haven’t gone into to much detail at this point but the main thread of it is this is effectivley Superman Begins. Any questions and suggestions are very welcome at this point.
