What’s in a name?

What’s in a name? Everything! A good name, a catchy name can be the difference between life and death for a product, a brand, an idea, bar the exception of the Nintendo Wii. The Wii, it was/is a dodgy name in my honest opinion and still Nintendo’s last generation console kicked the holy hell out of everyone by a million miles.

So whilst the western world (us Europeans and such) wait with feverish hands for the official launch of Sony’s Next Generation Portable, the PlayStation Vita, I thought we/The Games Ingredients® should remind ourselves of the past. The names, the games, the consoles, the computers that put a smile on our faces, for one reason or another.

Spectrum 48K+ a Christmas present back in the days of Duran Duran. A BBC Master Compact with a green screen monitor, purchased from one of my mothers former work colleagues. The game Citadel was a classic. Eventually sold the system for a whopping £850 quid/pounds and purchased my very own Amiga 500, Stunt Car Racer!

Super Nintendo Entertainment System, purchased second-hand from a small independent electrical shop (something akin to Tandy Electronics and RadioShack). It came with StarFox/StarWing. My first PC, an Amstrad SX25. The first foray into PC gaming, before the days of constant upgrading.

A Wii, bought new on eBay for a £1, best bargain ever.

An Xbox 360 Elite. Purchased on day one, three Red Rings of Death, and five years later, still happy.

A PlayStation 3, had the other two consoles, why not a third?

PlayStation Vita. Looking forward to Unit 13 to begin with.
